Oh my gosh, hi!
Thank you so much for subscribing. Before we jump into the issues, it needs to be said (probably over and over again) that the mission of this newsletter is absolutely not to draw believers away from their faith practices. Religion is an important and valuable part of many people’s lives. I’m not interested in taking away, denigrating, or reducing the importance of that experience. Rather, this newsletter will serve as a documentation of process, community space, and resource for people who have already made the choice to leave. People leave religion and when they do, they need help.
Deciding to end a religious practice can cause feelings of being utterly adrift, confusion, fear, excitement, liberation, and a grappling with new identity; at least it did for me. It’s my goal to reduce the suffering and isolation felt by those working through this process while simultaneously building a catalogue of experiences for future research on the psychological and social impact of leaving religion.
The information I pass on to you will be a mix of reports on scientific research (with references provided, of course!), practical tips for navigating newly shifted relationships and perspectives, external resource recommendations, interviews, and essays.
Getting through this major psychological and social shift in perception and practice can be really tough. It’s important that a community forms around this issue so that we can tackle it together. Thanks for connecting! I’m so glad you’re here.
XOXO,
Kelsey
